The 3rd King’s Royal Rifle Corps battalion were in India when the war began in August, 1914 but they were soon on their way home and in November reached Winchester where they became part of 80 Brigade, 27th Division. The following month the division crossed to France. On 1st February, 1915, Thomas Mcnab was killed when they moved into trenches at St Eloi, just to the south of Ypres and where, according to the battalion diary there was a good deal of rifle and shell fire with opposing lines only 20-50 yards apart. |
